Meet The Candidate – Me

So now I’m going around to different groups and talking to them about their issues for the election. But as well as the people who are engaged in some part of the political process through whatever policy area or level of lobbying, we can’t ignore the many people who currently have no say in politics at any level, other than their vote.

Whether it’s through a lack of time, or through the many perversions of process that have narrowed the opportunities to get active, or in some cases, just appeared to, people are less involved in politics than at any time before. Well, at least since the feudal system.

In order to reach those people, with few resources and little money, we’re holding small meet the candidate events in the seat of Brisbane – the next one is on

Saturday the 22nd of September from 2-4pm

at the Blu Grotto Bar and Cafe 4/155 Baroona Rd, Rosalie

Letterboxing for this event, this evening in Bardon, was quite different from letterboxing for my launch in New Farm. New Farm’s quite densely populated and flat.

Bardon, not as much. We covered half as much area as budgeted and will have to go back and finish the job soon. I’m having to rein in my darkest impulses to sketch out legislation to flatten our topography and re-write zoning laws the way they did the sizes of drinks at the cinema – high density is the new low, ultra-high the new medium, and ultra-mega-standing-on-your-neighbour’s-cat-dense is the new high. But on further reflection, I think that might be just the tiniest bit megalomaniacal.
